Our Roots
In 1989, a small group of people started meeting in the school and in January 1998, 41 members formed the newly independent Church, Old Roan Baptist Church and we’ve seen many people since then come through our doors, at present we have nearly 100 regulars. The Church is a community-based church, with the leaders and Minister, Rev. John Kearns, all living in the Village.
On Sundays
Each Sunday
a service is held at 10.30am followed by tea and coffee and time to chat. We
try to make our services relevant to people’s lives today. There can be drama,
video clips, music, dance and more. The service is taped for those who cannot
get to church or for friends further afield and a loop system is provided for
the hearing impaired.
The Youth Church
Children
are very welcome and there are various provisions for different age groups from
Crèche to teenagers. The junior church, Laser (primary age) have their own
programme with lots to appeal to them. The teenagers also get very involved
with their own group and investigate a wide range of topics that they can
relate to.
The pre-school Crèche is located close to the main hall and has two staff each week that help provide lots to keep the little ones happy and content with a variety of things from toys and making things to music and games.
&Because Church isn’t just for Sundays
During the week, people meet in small groups to develop friendships and find out more about being a Christian. We also meet together now and again as a whole church during the week, to worship, to support one another, study the Bible and pray. We sometimes invite special guest speakers this meeting. There are monthly and fortnightly prayer meetings as well.
On a Tuesday evening at 6.30pm there is the “Harvest Youth Café”, for those 11yrs and above, this is held at the Holy Rosary Parish Hall. This is open to all (depending on space of course), it is a place where they can be relaxed, socialize, play pool, listen to music or some even have been known to do their homework there!!
On Thursday
evenings there is the midweek Laser for primary school children from
6.00-7.00pm
Social events
We like to put on events that everyone can enjoy; – we hope to offer a variety of different occasions such as an evening out or daytrip; barn dances, musical evenings, a walk on the beach, meal with after dinner speaker; a day in Llandudno or screening a big match with a barbeque, we try to cater for all tastes!
Our Cassette Ministry…
allows a person who can’t get to church to hear the life applicable talks often presented in a short series format. They go as far afield as New Zealand and Africa (amongst other places), as recommendations spread. This has been going since 1997 with many thousands of tapes created up to the present day

Sunday Masses were celebrated in many places in the area before the church was built. Nonemore unusual than a garden shed at the rear of the priests lodgings in Radley Drive. In 1951, Abbey Farm, land, farmhouse and barns were purchased at a cost of £1250. The church was finally built when following an advertisng campaign in the Irish press, which told of a ‘Deprived Aintree hearing Mass in the garden shed', the people of Ireland sent Father Gillan £9000.

Prior to the builing of their own church, the Methodist community held services in the British Legion (where B&Q now stands), until the building became dilapidated; when services were held in the homes of any good folk who were willing and able to accomodate. The foundation stone for the church was laid on 25th September 1954 and the day of dedication was 10th December 1955.

The Parish Church of Aintree is dedicated to Saint Giles and Saint Peter
The church began life sixty years ago as a daughter Church to St Peter's (which was opposite the entrance to the Grand National racecourse until demolished in 1998) during the time when the small rural hamlet of Aintree was expanding. The first church was destroyed by fire during the war and the present building was opened in 1956.
The church and the Parish centre are here to serve the seven thousand residents of Aintree, firstly by acknowledging the Power that brought us and all creation into being; to give thanks for the gift of life and to be alongside people in times of sadness and joy. Secondly to meet together to grow in our understanding of the spiritual and ethical dimensions of our lives in community by applying the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth to our situation today in a fast changing world and to pass on these values to the children of the Parish so that they may grow into fullness of life.
Our time of Prayer and Communion together is on Sundays at 10.30am followed by refreshments in the Parish centre. The Sunday School meets at the same time.
All true religion grows out of community and our church provides facilities for a range of community activity including The Womens Fellowship; The Guides and Brownies; The Army Cadet Force; A Play School and a range of social activity. All are welcomeat St Giles and anyone wanting to take part in serving this community should contact one of the people listed in the directory.
We send the Rev. Patrick and his family best wishes for the future and welcome Father Bruce and his family to Aintree Village.
