The village of today has the same acreage and triangular shape as the Township of Aintree many hundreds of years ago. The village is bounded by the Racecourse on the Walton/Fazakerley border, the railway on the Netherton border and the River Alt on the Maghull border.

The village is 6 miles from Ormskirk and 6 miles from Liverpool.
